Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I get started?
The fastest way to get started is to fill out the Contact form here. We will have a phone consult about your child's needs and goals. From there we will look to schedule a free trial demo, where you get to see how our Piano Express class will work. After your kids are excited, you will be invited to register and support your child in weekly lessons.

  • What do you teach?
The Method we use is called the Piano Express. This is a 'read-first' approach that highly stresses the importance of notation. Additionally this incorporates elements of theory, composition, technique. Much of the music surveys multiple genres including Classical, Pop, Blues. The average length of this program is typically a 2 year period to go from complete beginner to mid-intermediate.

  • How do lessons generally work?
Students meet with their teacher once a week at their scheduled lesson time-slot. Our school operates year round and students have the opportunity to participate in annual piano examinations from the Royal Conservatory of Music and Piano Recitals.

  • What ages do you teach?
Our Piano Express program specializes in working with school-aged kids. Typically, our minimum age is 5 years old, though it could be possible to enroll a 4-year old that is developmentally ready. The free demo session will be used to evaluate the readiness of a student. If students are not quite ready Piano Express, our younger students may be ready for the My First Piano Adventure in-home program. If you have a student that is interested in piano that lies outside that demographic, please reach out to us so we can discuss the options to study at Eric's Piano school if younger or as an adult.

  • Do you offer free trials?
At Eric's Piano School, we offer a free demo session for our Piano Express program.

  • Is an instrument needed at home and if so what sort?
In order to ensure the best results and progression, it is a requirement that a student intends to purchase a piano. It is an option to proceed with the trial prior to owning a piano. The promises of transformation we make at our school rely on at-home play in addition to lessons. If you have questions about which piano to purchase, contact me using the form and I can send you my Entry-Level Piano Buying Guide.

  • What do you charge?
Please use the contact form to receive a price quote of our current rates.

  • Do you offer any discounts?
At our school, we offer a 5% discount when multiple siblings are enrolled in our Piano Express program. Our program offers all-inclusive pricing to include books, recitals, Piano Express software account, and other extras to make sure your child has everything they need to succeed.

  • Are your teaching hours fixed or flexible?
When starting piano lessons, it is essential to stick to a regular time slot that allows a student to optimize their learning process. In the event of a schedule conflict, please reach out to us to see if there is an option for a rescheduled lesson. Students will be responsible for making up all lessons and not available for a refundable credit.

  • What do you expect from parents?
Parents are expected to ensure that their students maintain regular attendance in their classes. Additionally, they are the support role that can be critical to assist at home with setup for practice. An ideal practice routine would consist of 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week if they want to get optimal results. Parents of younger children (7 and below) will need to supervise practice and make sure they are practicing properly. I see dramatically different results from students whose parents are active participants in their child's piano learning journey.
